Yu-Gi-Oh! literally meaning "The King of Games" is a shonen manga written and drawn by Kazuki Takashi. He said he was inspired by "Magic: The Gathering" a game of playing cards and collectibles invented by Richard Garfield in 1993. This manga has a total of thirty-eight volumes published from 1996 to 2004 and has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Following its success, Yu-Gi-Oh! has been adapted into two animation series, the first series was made by the well-known Toei animation in 1998 and the second by Gallop from 2000 to 2004. Yu-Gi-Oh! has become more than a simple manga or a simple anime series, it is also collectible card games. Indeed, the franchise has been particularly involved in its playing card game, organizing tournaments between players in which they can challenge each other and play like in the manga.
The manga tells the story of Yûgi Muto, a young high school student of small size, shy, a little too nice and expert in the game. One day he receives from his grandfather, an old explorer named Solomon Yuto, a puzzle "The Millennium Puzzle" that he brought back from Egypt. His young grandson, Yugi manages to solve it and it is then that without knowing it, he releases the secret of the Millennium Puzzle. Yugi feels taken over by a new personality, very different from him, even his opposite, a more mature, more confident and stronger personality.
This is the beginning of Yugi's fascinating adventure with his best friends, Joey, Tristan and Téa, all of whom are passionate about a certain card game called "Duel of Monsters" created by the mysterious Maximillion Pegasus. A game of chance and strategy in which players duel each other using cards. This game will allow them, through different duels, to learn a little more about the history of the Millennium Puzzle, the mysterious person hidden inside and to discover if there are other similar artifacts with the same mystical powers.
