I collect whatever tells the story of my era. And, down on the bottom shelf, a row of masked killers that have no business being there.
If I were…
a license: the NBA. Figures that age alongside the careers and end up documenting one specific season.
a character: Pepper Brooks in Dodgeball. Commentating live without understanding a thing is pretty much the job.
a Funko line: Bloody. I have no excuse and I'm not looking for one.
a line of dialogue: "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood." I drop it everywhere. It lands about one time in three.
a collector's flaw: I buy on the news cycle. Six months later I can't remember what the figure was celebrating.
What I collect
On my shelves: a solid eighty-odd POPs, nearly all from the music, sports and real-people lines. NBA first. Plus the bottom row, which nobody asked me to explain.
My buying rule: if the figure doesn't date a specific moment — a jersey, a tour, a season — I pass.
The one I'm still hunting: the Daft Punk: Alive pack. Both helmets, in condition.
My favorites
- My favorite POP: Daft Punk Discovery Era
- My favorite POP collection: NBA
