Tom and Jerry Gokko: Funko releases a version where they're friends

Two figures have been announced for December 2026, based on a Japanese series that flips eighty years of chasing on its head. In Tom & Jerry Gokko, the cat and mouse are no longer constantly pursuing each other. And Funko carries that idea all the way into its product descriptions.

Gokko, meaning “pretend play”

The title says it all, if you speak Japanese. The suffix gokko refers to children's imitation games, to the idea of pretending. It appears in expressions used for role-playing games such as “playing doctor.”

Tom & Jerry Gokko therefore roughly means “playing Tom and Jerry.” And that is exactly what the series offers: a slice-of-life version produced by Warner Bros. Japan, partly inspired by the manga Tom and Jerry: Seven Colors, where the two characters behave more like bickering friends than enemies.

The visual style follows the same idea. Rounded lines, a soft color palette and an openly kawaii aesthetic, aimed at very young children. The series is available for free on the WB Kids YouTube channel, which confirms the target audience.

For a license whose founding gag can be summed up in one sentence — the cat never manages to catch the mouse — it is a complete reversal.

Two releases, and a suffix that matters

The official names include the (Gokko) label, and that detail is not cosmetic.

Funko is using it to distinguish this line from the regular Tom & Jerry license, which already includes several releases. The two versions coexist in the catalog without being mixed together, with different sculpts and a different visual treatment. Funko even files these figures under Japanese animation rather than American cartoons.

It is worth noting that the second release is noticeably larger than the first, since it includes two characters instead of one.

Jerry does not come alone

This is the most interesting choice in the wave. Rather than releasing Jerry alone opposite Tom, Funko pairs him with Nibbles.

The character is not just an extra. First appearing in the cartoons of the 1940s, the little gray mouse in a diaper changes the dynamic: he puts Jerry in the role of protector and softens the chase formula, since Tom is now facing two mice, one of whom is a child. In a series specifically designed to soften the balance of power between the characters, he is the most useful addition possible.

The result: one cat on one side, two mice on the other. The imbalance is part of the point.

Figures to reunite, not pit against each other

The official descriptions are worth reading because they explicitly show what Funko understood about the series.

Tom's reads: « Reunite this adorable cat with his mischievous mouse counterpart. » Jerry's reads: « Reunite these adorable mice with their pesky feline counterpart. » The verb is the same in both cases: reunite.

Funko is therefore not selling a duel, but a reunion. With almost any other version of the license, that wording would sound absurd. Here, it fits the concept perfectly.

What to look for

Both together, because the line only really works as a duo, and Funko says as much in its own product descriptions.

If you can only buy one, Jerry with Nibbles is the better choice: two characters in a single release, a larger format, and the only one of the two that does not already exist in the regular Tom & Jerry line in this form. Pre-orders are open, with the release scheduled for December 2026.
