Norris and Piastri: New Pops for a McLaren Duo Under Strain

Saturday, October 10, final lap of the Singapore sprint. Lando Norris dives down the inside of Oscar Piastri at Turn 5, fighting for fourth. Contact. McLaren leaves with a single point. The next day, Norris admits the mistake and says he let the team down. Two weeks later, Funko announces a new pair of McLaren Pops: Norris #23 and Piastri #24, due in December.

The timing is a little cruel. This weekend in Austin, both drivers are racing to rescue a season that got away from them.

The 2025 Duo, Already Boxed

The previous pair is still around, and it was designed as a keepsake. Norris #19 and Piastri #20 belong to the 2025 Season Collection, helmet in hand. That was the year the duo ruled: Norris world champion, Piastri 13 points back with seven wins. Funko added a Pop! Rides of Norris in his MCL39 (#158), the title car.

That crown put Norris alongside James Hunt and Ayrton Senna on McLaren's list of champions. The license already has both: Hunt with his M23D (#157), Senna in a McLaren race suit (#11).

2026, the Season That Changed Everything

Norris now carries the number 1. He has won twice, in Hungary and the Netherlands, and sits sixth with 201 points after Singapore. Piastri is seventh with 138 points, no wins, and has been mathematically out of the title fight since early October. The championship belongs to Kimi Antonelli, on 340 points, and Mercedes leads the constructors with 578 to McLaren's 339.

The new #23 and #24 Pops are retailer exclusives. Funko hasn't yet published a description explaining how they differ from #19 and #20. It's a fair question: a Norris wearing the number 1 on his suit would tell the 2026 story, not the 2025 one.

Our Take: The Referee Is Missing

I'm taking Piastri. His 2025 season is still the duo's best story, seven wins and a title lost by a whisker, and his Pop will age better than a winless 2026. Norris's is shakier: if the number 1 isn't on it, it will mostly document a champion's rough year.

The real gap is off track. Toto Wolff has a Pop (#16). Andrea Stella, McLaren's team principal, has none. Yet he's the one who called the Singapore clash unacceptable and chose not to sanction Norris. In 2026, the man holding the pairing together matters as much as the two drivers.
