Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney's great classics. Inspired by the eponymous tale published in the 18th century, the story features a young girl who gradually falls in love with the Beast. The Beast was once a young prince who lived in a sumptuous castle. He was capricious, selfish and insensitive. According to the tale, one winter's evening, an old beggar woman presented herself to the prince and offered him a rose in exchange for shelter. Disgusted by the beggar's appearance, the prince chased the old woman away. The old woman turned into an enchanting creature. To punish the prince, she turned him into a beast and cast a spell on the castle and the servants who turn into objects.
The rose offered by the beggar is an enchanted rose that will fade on her twenty-first birthday. To regain its original appearance and break the curse that was cast upon it, the Beast must learn to love and be loved in return before the last petal of the magic flower falls. Otherwise, the prince will be condemned to keep the appearance of a monster for all eternity. It is then that Belle arrives, a sweet, cultured and courageous young woman who takes the place of her father Maurice, captured by the Beast for having entered the castle.
