Discover the action figures of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
One is always afraid to find the words to define It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia which, in France, will have been simply adapted under the name of Philadelphia. A name not to be confused with the eponymous film in which Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington play. It is indeed important to bring this clarification in this sense where the error could be fatal. Philadelphia is not necessarily a series to put under all the eyes so much its humor is black and scathing. A rather controversial humor but which, however, will have allowed Philadelphia to be the longest-running comedy series on American cable TV. This one has indeed 14 seasons on its counter and is about to shoot a 15th one. This shows that even corrosive humor can be a crowd pleaser.
Still too little known in France, the series had been adapted on Canal + for the first three seasons. Philippe Peythieu, the hilarious dubbing actor, was in charge of dubbing the character of Dany Devitto for whom he is the regular dubber. Because indeed, the series, if it is not very famous in our countries, includes however in its main casting an actor as famous as Danny Devitto who will have joined the "Gang" from the second season. He will play Frank Reynolds, a wealthy entrepreneur seeking to return to the depravity of his youth. He will succeed admirably by being a little more marginal and crazy year after year. Like all the other main and secondary characters.
For Philadelphia is above all the story of Dennis, Mac and Charlie, three bar owners who, along with Dee, the waitress, and Frank, the father of two of them, display their horrible personalities. All of them are despicable in their own way to the point where it can only elicit laughter. A shocked laugh, but a frank one. Dennis is a remorseless psychopath whose methods of seduction are highly questionable, Mac is a big kid over 30 who thinks he's something he's not and is intellectually vacuous, while Charlie is illiterate, lacking in any viable social skills and known for stalking a waitress he's in love with. All those who come into contact with them will experience the same degree of moral rot that is theirs. For the secondary characters are also legion and all, in their own way, will have paid the price of the Gang. Starting with the unfortunate Rickity Cricket, who, because of them, has gone from being a Catholic priest to a scarred tramp prostituting himself on the street.
It is this dark atmosphere with its wry humor that inspires the Funko POP Philadelphia collection. The Philadelphia POP figures here are all taken from one episode in particular: "The Nightman Cometh" where Charlie presents a musical... which will know the setbacks that we know. Because each episode of Philadelphia ends in decay, shame or atrocity. This is what makes the charm of the series, and this is what makes some people want to own a Philadelphia figure for their Funko POP collection.
