POP Yoko Kurama (Ghost Files Yu Yu Hakushô)

Kurama wasn't always the gentle, wise student who took special care of his mother so that she would never suffer because of him. Before taking on the appearance of an earthling, Kurama, who remained a demon of the Makai world, was once the fearsome and esteemed Yoko Kurama.

Just as Hiei was once a powerful and feared demon before he got the eye of Jagan, so too was Yoko Kurama a Makai legend who, however, went through a series of setbacks before becoming Kurama, a demon of minor strength who would grow stronger with each arc until he was back to his original strength and beyond.

Yoko was once a thief in the Makai, accompanied by Yomi, his most loyal sidekick. However, Yoko found this sidekick annoying and cumbersome, and even staged a scene to kill him. Yomi survives the attack but loses his sight. Yoko, as for him, seriously wounded, will have to resolve to be reincarnated in a newborn on Earth in order to survive. This newborn baby, then, was Kurama. But rather than leave his family, he decided to stay on Earth after becoming fond of his Earth mother.

It was only by accident that Kurama was reunited with his former personality: Yoko. During his fight against Urashima, the latter, using a power supposed to make him regress in age, made Kurama reconnect with his former form which was Yoko, for a given time.

Before his fight against Karasu and the Toguro team, Suzuka, one of the demons he faced in the semi-final, will give Kurama the potion of the previous life. A few drops of the potion will allow Kurama to reconnect with his Yoko personality and regain his former strength for a few minutes. Kurama will later reconnect with Yomi, who has become one of the three great kings of Makai. Yomi will accept Kurama as his right hand man before Yusuke upsets the balance by organizing the great Makai tournament to determine the next king.

The Funko POP figure of Yoko Kurama represents Kurama when he was Yoko. The two appearances have nothing to do with each other. If Kurama is a young boy with feminine features and red hair as we can see on the Kurama POP #544, the Yoko Kurama figure is otherwise different.

Indeed, this POP of Yoko Kurama represents a character all dressed in white with an ancient tunic. Yoko meaning fox, the character represented by the Yoko Kurama figure has two ears on top of his head. Ears that overhang a long white hair with fine hair.

The Funko POP figure of Yoko Kurama, surrounded by petals twirling around her, carries in her left hand the rose from which Kurama usually uses her Rose Whip. However, the character so presented by the figurine, far from sticking to the Rose Whip, uses to fight a series of monstrous demonic plants with which he will defeat both Karasu and Toguro the elder.
