The end of the year is synonymous with taking stock, and Funko has not forgotten this tradition by unveiling some of this year's great successes. So if you want to know how many new POPs were released in 2023, which license was the most popular or which POP was snapped up in minutes, it's over here!
How many new POPs were released this year?
1720.
Yes! 1,720 new POP figures were unveiled by Funko this year, enough to satisfy every fan's passion.
Among the categories that benefited from the new figures, the top three were :
- POP Animation, with over 300 new figures, and no less than 40 for One Piece alone!
- POP Movies, with over 200 new POPs, led by the waves of POPs for the latest Indiana Jones movie, as well as a number of superhero films (The Flash and Shazam).
- POP Television, with just over 150 new figurines from TV series including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Parks & Recreation, Ted Lasso, etc.
Below this podium are three extremely powerful licenses: Marvel with almost 150 new figures, Disney with 130 new figures (boosted in particular by the 100 years of Disney set) and just under 100 new Star Wars POPs (with the boom in spin-off mini-series).
What was the 2023 best-selling Funko POP?
Drum roll... The best-selling Funko POP of 2023 is... Sanemi from Demon Slayer (#1253). Announced in December 20222, the Demon Slayer wins the title of best-selling POP of the year.
What was the most popular license in 2023?
Staying with POP Animation (which clearly occupies the top spot in the 2023 ranking), we're heading for THE most popular license this year: One Piece.
It has to be said that this success is based on a recipe that has nothing magical about it:
- the license is very strong and was already among the most popular in previous years;
- Funko has delighted fans with over forty new One Piece Funko POPs this year.
- Funko made fans dream with exceptional formats: posters, POP Rides of the boats, etc.
The result is clear: One Piece is the best-selling Funko POP license this year.
Which POP sold fastest?
As all Funko POP collectors and enthusiasts know, sometimes you have to be reactive if you don't want to miss out on a good deal. This is especially true for POPs printed in very limited numbers at conventions...
The POP that takes the title of fastest-selling POP figurine of 2023 is the perfect illustration of our proposals above, since it's Luffy's "Wanted" Poster, unveiled at this Fall's NYCC Convention.
It was clearly one of the star announcements of this convention: Luffy posing in front of his "wanted" poster with the 1,500,000,000 Berry bounty! The item being a tribute in itself to the anime, fans pounced on it...
