The settings are disturbing as one could wish to plunge us into an atmosphere both gloomy and desperate, perfectly in line with what the characters are living.
Indeed, Squid Game, although inspired by a children's game, has nothing good childish about it. Squid Game refers to an underground organization that invites hundreds of heavily indebted people to simple-looking games. If they win, they are guaranteed a jackpot in the billions.
