POP Grandma Tala (Moana)

Tala is the grandmother of Moana, the Disney cartoon released in 2016. The cartoon is inspired by the legend that the creation of the islands of Polynesia is the work of the goddess Te Fiti. According to the legend, Te Fiti's heart was stolen and then lost in the ocean by the demigod Maui, causing it to disintegrate. The evil power of Te Ka, a volcanic demon poisons the island and according to the legend, a hero helped by the demigod Maui will return Te Fiti's heart to restore the balance. Tala, Moana's grandmother and mother of the chief of the tribe practices ritual dances and tries to keep the memory of the people alive. She recognizes the destiny of her little girl and will support her until the end.

Indeed, a few millennia later, the ocean chose Moana to accomplish the mission of giving back the heart to Te Fiti. Moana finds the heart on the beach when she is still a baby. When Moana is a teenager, the islands begin to die and the fishes begin to disappear. Grandmother Tala thinks it's because of Te Fiti who is disintegrating without her heart. She then encourages her granddaughter to go to sea despite her father's prohibition, who thinks the sea is too dangerous. Tala reveals to Moana the existence of a cave hiding several boats, those of the ancestors of the Motunui people. The young Moana then understands that in the past, her people used to sail from island to island in the sea. Her dying grandmother gave her the stone she had found on the beach and pushed her to start her journey. Dedicated, Moana goes to sea on a pirogue. Her grandmother died shortly after she left and appeared as a spirit to guide her granddaughter, then reincarnated as a mantra ray to follow her throughout her adventure.

On this Pop! figurine, we find the grandmother Tala, dressed in the Polynesian fashion, very natural. She wears a beige, orange and brown loincloth dress draped around her body. Pretty pink patterns on her top recall the row of pink flowers on the loincloth. She is holding a cane on which she rests her two hands. Around her neck she wears a necklace with a blue and white stone. At the level of her head, we recognize her long white hair, her grey eyebrows that stand out on her brown skin. Her hair is tied up in a bun with a pretty pink flower as a barrette.
