POP Echo (Echo)

Maya Lopez aka Echo is a young woman with complex origins. The eponymous series revisits her origins, shedding light on a character whose journey intertwines with that of other Marvel superheroes such as Hawkeye and Daredevil.

The Echo series picks up the thread of history as Maya follows in the footsteps of "Kingpin", a New York crime lord who has taken her under his wing and is training her to take over. At the same time, Maya learns more about her Native American origins, and we come to understand that she is the descendant of the warrior Chafa, from whom she derives her powers.

Her name "Echo" reflects the transmission of this power from Chafa to Maya, the young girl carrying within her the strengths of previous generations.

Between her Choctaw origins that come crashing back into her as she returns to her hometown of Tamaha, Oklahoma, and her battle with the man who indoctrinated her, the series is full of twists and turns and action. Not to mention the fact that the young woman is the first superheroine with a severe handicap: she's a leg amputee and deaf...

Funko pays tribute to the young Maya Lopez with a POP named Echo, as the young woman wears her grandmother's Choctaw warrior costume. The figurine is taken from the fifth and final episode of the series. Funko hasn't left out a single detail of the costume, from the stitching to the straps on the legs and in the hair.

Given Maya's fighting stance on the figurine, the POP is clearly taken from the final battle scene where Echo confronts the Kingpin's men to save her family and her people. With her closed fists, it's easy to imagine her palms lighting up with the power of her ancestors!

Echo's POP could not represent the young woman with dignity if Funko hadn't taken particular care in the representation of her right (amputated) leg. In this scene, Maya wears the golden splint designed by her grandfather. He carved Native American symbols on it to remind us that Maya is the proud descendant of the entire Choctaw nation!
