POP Venus Williams (Tennis Legends)

Venus Williams is a huge American tennis player. Known for having formed a duo of great champions with her sister Serena, Venus is the eldest of the two and to date has won 23 Grand Slam titles and became the first black player to be ranked No. 1 WTA in 2002.

Among her other accomplishments, Venus is also the only player, male and female, to have won medals at four different Olympic Games. She has won a total of 5 Olympic medals, 4 of which are gold!

The story of the Williams sisters is a beautiful one and has inspired many African-Americans to turn to sport, especially tennis. Coming from an underprivileged family, Venus' father trained his daughters himself, seeing sport as a way to escape their precarious living conditions and climb the social ladder. A successful gamble, since Venus, like Serena, has reached new heights.

Venus' playing qualities make her a very difficult opponent. In particular, she is known to be the most powerful player on the first ball, giving her an undeniable advantage to get the upper hand in a match. She is also very offensive and doesn't hesitate to get to the net to make beautiful volleys.
