POP John McEnroe (Tennis Legends)

John McEnroe, nicknamed the "genius of tennis", flew over the sport in the early 1980s. A rival of Björn Borg at the end of the 1970s, McEnroe partly built himself up by taking over from this great champion with a temperament almost opposed to the Swedish calm.

This American player, born in 1959, has an excellent record of 77 titles including 7 Grand Slam trophies. He is also the first player to have won the US Open three times in a row, a national pride!

Appreciated by the general public for his very offensive style of play, McEnroe also marked the courts with his explosive character. Very often in conflict with the decisions of the referees and judges, he did not hesitate to violently reprimand them, creating a destabilizing spectacle. Another highlight in the player's career: he never had a coach! An exceptional fact for a player who will reach the rank of World No. 1 and win so many competitions.

While John McEnroe's career is littered with trophies, a tournament remains a failure for him and one of the most dramatic matches of his life as a professional player. Indeed, McEnroe never won Roland Garros and collapsed against Lendl in the final of the tournament in 1984 when he was leading 6/3 and 6/2, he finally lost after a very trying suspense match and never won the French tournament .
