POP action figure of Maximus #859
Maximus Decimus Meridius is the main character of Gladiator retracing the history of this Roman general at the head of the armies of the North who became a simple slave, then gladiator, then main opponent to the emperor of Rome!
Maximus is the faithful servant of the emperor Marcus Aurelius. The affection of the two men is reciprocal and Marcus Aurelius estimates Maximus at most to the point to confide him that he intends to yield the power to him at his death. Maximus, who has no other ambition than to return to his family will become the emperor of Rome.
When Marcus Aurelius announces his decision to his son Commodus, the latter cannot contain his hatred. Li, who was looking for two things: the love of his father and the ambition to reign over Rome, is about to lose everything. He then kills Marcus Aurelius to take power.
Sentenced to death, Maximus manages to escape but will not be able to save his family. When he arrives on his land, he discovers the bodies of his wife and son, both burned and hanged. Maximus collapses and is captured by a merchant of men.
Made a slave, Maximus hides his identity when he is bought by Proximo, a gladiator trainer. He then sees a glimmer of hope that he will return to Rome to fight as a gladiator and kill Commodus to avenge his family.
In the arena of the Colosseum, Maximus becomes the hero of the plebs. He is quickly noticed to the point that the emperor calls him to find out his identity. When Maximus reveals himself, Commodus becomes livid, understanding that Maximus is not dead and that he wants revenge.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Senate also conspires against the emperor and Commodus understands that Maximus can again take everything away from him. He decides to capture him and confront him in a fight in the arena to regain the love of his people. Before the fight, Commodus stabs Maximus to weaken him.
The plebeians are out of their minds as the Emperor of Rome and the gladiator Maximus, a former general who has become a slave, fight it out in the Colosseum. In spite of his wound, Maximus manages to kill Commodus and restore his greatness to Rome before dying in turn to find his family ...
Funko proposes a POP figure of Maximus as a gladiator. There is another POP of Maximus as a gladiator, but this one presents him as the former general prepares to fight for the first time at the coliseum.
Maximus' slave quality can be recognized by his clothing: a simple blue blouse, somewhat torn, and poor quality shoes. On his clothes, Maximus wears his armor for the fight at the Colosseum. He has a black chest protector with silver horses drawn on it, a shield that he picked up during the fight and a silver helmet that allows him to protect himself and hide his identity at the same time.
The Maximus figure shows him in the scene where he has just won his first fight at the coliseum. Commodus then joins the arena to talk to this impressive gladiator. Maximus sees this as an opportunity to exact his revenge and picks up the tip of an arrow that he is about to drive into Commodus. We see the arrow in his right hand on this POP.
Finally, Funko was able to represent the physical characteristics of the gladiator played by Russell Crowe and we recognize some distinctive elements of the character's physique on this POP with for example the beard collar that we can see under the helmet.
