POP Commodus (Gladiator)

Commodus is the Roman emperor in the movie Gladiator. Son of Marcus Aurelius, he succeeds him when he has just murdered his father. Indeed, Marcus Aurelius wishes to offer his succession to his general Maximus instead of passing on his powers to his own son. Filled with hatred, Commodus therefore seized power and sentenced Maximus and his family to death.

Commodus is an emperor unloved by the people and considered an impostor by the Senate. To make himself appreciated, he decides to offer the plebeians ever more impressive games at the Colosseum. With great blows of gladiatorial fights, animals imported from Africa or chariot races, Commodus tries to impose himself at the head of the Roman Empire.

During an impressive fight, the emperor calls a gladiator to find out his identity. He discovered the face of Maximus, who had become a slave after escaping his executioners, and now a gladiator. Convenient becomes livid and understands that the gladiator Maximus wants to avenge his family and overthrow him from power.

Commodus, behaving like a dictator Caesar, will order the arrest of senators and do everything in his power to see Maximus die in the arena, even if it means facing him himself. It is thus in a last intense fight that the two men will challenge each other: the emperor of Rome hated in front of the slave become gladiator.

The figure POP of Commodus in Gladiator presents the character as he became the emperor at the death of Marcus Aurelius and now reigns over the entire Roman Empire. The POP therefore presents him in an outfit worthy of his status with richly decorated armor. His armor oscillates between purple and black, with different gildings. Commodus also wears a large cape in his back and different protections on his arms and legs.

Funko has of course not omitted to represent the distinctive signs of the Roman emperors and like every Caesar, Commodus wears a golden laurel wreath on his head. It is therefore understandable that on this figurine, Commodus is represented as he goes to the Colosseum to admire the spectacle offered to the people of Rome.

The POP of Commodus takes again the physical features of the actor Joaquin Phenix and one finds the luminous face of the character. His eyebrows testify to the constant anxiety of the emperor, always prey to doubts about his capacity to be loved by his family and his people.

Finally, in a nod to Gladiator and one of the greatest films of the peplum genre, Funko depicted Conveniently slicing the gladiator's life or death decision as he waved his hand with his thumb pointing down, thus condemning the gladiator to death.
