POP The Smoking Man (X-Files)

The Smoker, or Smoking Man (in the original version The Smoking Man) is one of the central characters of the X-Files series. If the series mainly follows the two FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the Smoker is one of the most recurring characters alongside them.

He appears in many episodes as an intriguing and disturbing character who seems to spy on the two agents in their advancements on unclassified investigations involving paranormal phenomena.

We learn that the man with the cigarette is C.G.B. Spender. He is the father of Agent Fox Mulder and a member of the United States government. He is also a member of a consortium calling itself The Syndicate, which appears to be the organisation involved in many unexplained events. Spender has access to FBI data and monitors Fox and Dana to ensure that the activities of The Syndicate are not compromised and revealed to the public.

It is through this enigmatic character that we learn more about the Syndicate. This secret organization was set up by the U.S. government after the Roswell affair reporting an extraterrestrial presence on Earth.

The Smoker, and the Syndicate are leading negotiations with alien settlers to prevent an invasion of the planet. Their goal is to find an antidote to the alien-transmitted virus and preserve the planet. However, they are acting secretly and using more than questionable methods by conducting experiments on humans...

Funko pays homage to the X Files series with the emblematic character that is The Smoker. On his POP figurine, The Smoker is represented in a beige suit on which he wears a grey raincoat. His face looks quite young but his gray hair shows his age. On the POP, he is depicted in a posture where he stands upright with a clenched fist, witnessing his determination to protect the Union.

In proposing an X-Files figure of the man with a cigarette, Funko has not omitted the most important detail: the cigarette. Spender holds it in his right hand and we find the style of fine cigarettes that the character was constantly smoking. For the anecdote, it was the Morley brand, a fictitious but very Marlboro inspired brand.

Since X-Files has a rather limited number of main characters, this Smoker figurine is a perfect complement to Fox Mulder's POP and Dana Scully's POP.
