POP Meredith Grey (Grey's Anatomy)

Meredith Grey, played by actress Ellen Pompeo, is the main character of the American series Grey's Anatomy. This series was created by Shonda Rhimes and features the life of a fictional hospital, Seattle Grace Hospital, renamed Grey Sloan Memorial in season 9, and the lives of the interns, doctors and surgeons who work there. At the beginning of the series, we discover the new class of interns at the beginning of the school year. Among them are Meredith Grey and her classmates Alex Karev, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens and George O'Malley. They are under the supervision of a resident, Miranda Bailey.

Meredith Grey is the daughter of Thatcher Grey and Ellis Grey, a renowned former surgeon with Alzheimer's disease. Ellis has worked hard to devote herself to her career and has spent little time with her family and therefore with her daughter Meredith.

She and Dr. Richard Webber had an affair while they were both residents at Seattle Grace Hospital. When Webber chose to stay with his wife Adele, Ellis attempted suicide by slashing her wrists in front of Meredith, who called 911. Ellis and his daughter then moved to Boston where Ellis continued his career at Massachusetts General Hospital.

When Meredith entered as a first-year surgical resident at Seattle Hospital, she became her mother's legal guardian. The day before school started, she met Derek Shepherd, who turned out to be a Seattle Grace neurosurgeon and would become her supervisor. Meredith also meets and befriends the other interns she will befriend: Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O'Malley and Alex Karev.

In the first season, Meredith goes out with Derek before she realizes that Derek has a wife, Addison Montgormy-Shepherd. Throughout the episodes, we follow Meredith's life as an intern but also as a woman with her personal and sentimental stories. We will see her evolve from intern to resident, then attending and finally chief of general surgery.
