Four figures have been announced for November 2026, and two of them represent Spell Cards. Not duelists, not monsters: Pot of Greed and Scapegoat are becoming full-fledged figures in their own right. All of this comes just as the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Exactly thirty years
Kazuki Takahashi's manga began running in the pages of Weekly Shōnen Jump in September 1996. The franchise's official 30th anniversary therefore falls this month, and preparations have been underway.
In May, a video combining brand-new animation with “OVERLAP,” the fifth and final opening theme from the original series, was released online, with KIMERU returning on vocals. In December, Tokyo will host the very first public exhibition dedicated to Takahashi's original artwork, featuring more than 370 pieces. The creator died in 2022 while attempting to rescue people in distress at sea.
Funko is therefore arriving right in the middle of this anniversary window. And the company has chosen an angle nobody expected.
Pot of Greed – POP #2562: the most-memed card in the game
It is a bold choice. Pot of Greed has no character, no storyline and no memorable appearance in the anime. It is a ceramic pot with an unsettling grin, and yet it is one of the most famous cards ever printed.
Its reputation comes down to two things. First, its absurdly simple effect: draw two cards, with no condition and no drawback. Far too powerful to survive restriction lists, the card has been banned for years. More importantly, though, it became a recurring joke across the entire community because characters kept explaining over and over again what it did every time it was played.
Funko describes the figure with exactly the right level of discomfort: « the unnerving wide grin of this pot shows its yellowed teeth ». And the grin and those yellowed teeth really are all there is to represent.
Scapegoat – POP #2564: four sheep on defense
The other Spell Card in the wave, and the most charming one. Scapegoat summons four Sheep Tokens in Defense Position, each in a different pastel shade.
Funko wrote the product description exactly like card text: « Special summon 4 Sheep Tokens in the defense position in your Dueling Arena with POP! Scapegoat. » The company is not describing an object; it is describing a gameplay effect.
For duelists, it is the ultimate last-second survival card, the one you activate when there is nothing left to absorb an incoming attack. Turning it into a figure made up of four colorful sheep completely changes its tone.
Relinquished – POP #2563, Pegasus' monster
The largest figure in the wave at 15 cm tall, well above the usual format.
Relinquished is Maximillion Pegasus' Ritual Monster, the one that absorbs an opponent's creature and steals its stats. It is a mechanic that fits the character perfectly, a man who spends his time reading his opponents' minds thanks to his Millennium Eye.
Once again, Funko's description borrows from the card text rather than using standard marketing copy: « This monster can take on the ATK and DF of 1 opponent's monster on the field. »
Buster Blader – POP #2561 and its metallic Chase
The only traditional monster in the wave, and the only one to come with a Chase variant, featuring a metallic finish and a one-in-six chance of finding it.
Buster Blader is the game's dragon slayer. Its entire purpose can be summed up in one line of text: it gains 500 ATK for every Dragon controlled by the opponent or sent to their Graveyard. In other words, it is the card designed to counter Blue-Eyes White Dragon. In a franchise where the main rival runs three copies of the same dragon, that is hardly a minor detail.
Expect to pay between €14.90 and €17 for each of the four standard figures.
The smart idea behind this wave
Funko could have brought back Yugi, Kaiba and Dark Magician for the 30th anniversary. Instead, the company chose to dig one level deeper into the game's mythology, where the objects only actual players instantly recognize can be found.
That is what makes this wave interesting. A Pot of Greed sitting on a shelf means nothing to someone who has never played the game, and everything to someone who spent entire afternoons building decks. Those are the best kinds of collectibles: the ones that work like a sign of recognition between fans.
Pot of Greed is the figure to secure first, both for its symbolic value and because its appeal reaches beyond traditional figure collectors. The metallic Buster Blader Chase comes next, for the usual reasons. Pre-orders are open, with the release scheduled for November 2026.
