Funko continues to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the DC heroine Wonder Woman with two new POP figures from the anniversary set. Let's face it, at this point, it's more than a tribute since the set is almost entirely dedicated to Diana Prince with (now) a total of 18 Wonder Woman POP figures out of the 19 that make up this anniversary set... You're wondering which is the only POP that isn't Diana's? It's the Nubia POP #396!
For this announcement, Funko has unveiled two new Wonder Woman figures that recall the highlights of the DC heroine: Wonder Woman The Fall of Sinestro and Wonder Woman Flashpoint.
It is indeed in 1941 that Wonder Woman, also known as Diana daughter of Queen Hippolyta, made her appearance. In the middle of the world war, she joins the front line to fight Ares, the god of war who sows chaos on Earth... In this point, she is one of the first heroines to mix mythology and the modern world, something that will be found later in other superheroes such as Aquaman (and the city of Atlantis) at DC or Thor and the Scandinavian mythology at Marvel.
In addition to bringing a wind of mythology and history into the world of superheroes, Wonder Woman also brought her touch of "girl power" with the image of a strong and independent woman.
For these two new Wonder Woman POPs, we discover Diana in different outfits from her usual costume. Of course, some elements come back like the tiara on her head or the golden color that characterizes her perfectly but the POP of Wonder Woman The Fall of Sinestro and Wonder Woman Flashpoint are a little bit different from usual with a black and gold costume for the one of Sinestro since Wonder Woman is Yellow Lantern. She wears a blue and red costume, with a gray cape for Flashpoint. Remember that in the Flashpoint arc, Wonder Woman is a super villain, known for being a cruel and tyrannical queen...
