My Hero Academia: only one of these four POPs makes any noise

Four figures have been announced for December 2026, including a Chase. The anime ended in the spring, and Funko is not going back to the final war: it is going back to the classroom. Among the four, only one release genuinely adds something the catalog did not already have, and it switches formats to do it.

The anime ended on May 2

That is worth remembering, because it changes how every new wave for this license should be read.

The final season aired from October 4 to December 13, 2025, across eleven episodes. The last one, numbered 170, simply carried the title of the series. Then an additional episode, “More,” adapting the manga's final chapter, arrived on May 2, 2026. The manga itself had already ended in summer 2024.

My Hero Academia is therefore a finished story. There is no new material left to document, no upcoming season to accompany, no unseen form waiting to be revealed. Every wave released now is a choice made from a closed catalog, and that is the standard by which it should be judged.

Funko is not going back to the war, it is going back to school

All four official descriptions end with the same idea: fighting the League of Villains. Three of them also begin the same way, with “hero-in-training at U.A. High School.”

In other words, Funko is not documenting the end of the series. It is documenting the class. Three Class 1-A students and their homeroom teacher, back when they were still learning, before the torn uniforms and the consequences.

Bakugo switches formats, and his Chase lights up – POP #2592

This is the release that justifies the article.

It leaves the standard format for a nearly sixteen-centimeter Pop! Deluxe, and the extra space is actually used: Bakugo stands on a cloud of explosion smoke, with the word BOOOOM sculpted in comic-book lettering.

It is smarter than it looks. The sound effect is not decoration, it is manga grammar: in Horikoshi's work, Bakugo's explosions are written as much as they are drawn, and much of the energy on the page comes from those characters bursting out of the panels. Putting the sound into the sculpture means translating the page rather than just the image.

And one box in six contains a glow-in-the-dark Chase. For a character whose Quirk produces light and noise, a version that glows in the dark is not just a variant gimmick: it is the only honest way to represent a power a static figure cannot actually show.

It is also worth noting that Bakugo had never received either a Deluxe release or a glow-in-the-dark version before, despite having around half a dozen figures to his name.

My take on this release

The Deluxe Bakugo is the only truly defensible purchase in this wave, and the gap between it and the other three is huge.

With this license, the criterion can no longer simply be the character. Izuku Midoriya exists in thirteen versions. Bakugo in six. Aizawa in four. Once a line reaches that volume, the only question that matters is: what does this figure do that the previous ones did not? Only one of the four has an answer. New format, new base, a raised sound effect and a Chase that lights up: this is an object, not just another variation.

As for Aizawa, I am going to be a little harsh. Funko has already released the right Aizawa, the one sleeping in his sleeping bag, and it is one of the best figures in the entire license because it captures a joke the character actually lives. A standing Aizawa with his scarf is just a man dressed in black. If you own the sleeping-bag version, this one is a step backward.

Momo, on the other hand, I will defend. Her only existing figure dates back to the early days of the line, and she is the most neglected student relative to her importance: vice class representative of 1-A, one of the most interesting Quirks to represent, and a character the series treats seriously. A second release after all these waves is not filler, it is catching up.

Midoriya, skip him. Thirteen versions.

What really bothers me, finally, is not the absence of a character but the absence of a moment. The series has been over since May, the entire story is available, and Funko is still producing school uniforms. On a completed license, this is exactly when a line can afford to document an ending instead of another beginning. Pre-orders are open, with release scheduled for December 2026.
