POP action figure of Narrator with Power Animal (Chase) #919
The narrator of Fight Club will never give his name in the entire film or even in the entire book. The narrator, played by Edward Norton, has been presented in such a way that he is de-personalized, so that he has no special features. He is initially introduced as a human being broken by a consumerist machinery that devours him from within.
In spite of his well-paid job, in spite of his apartment and all his consumer objects, he is empty inside. His descent into hell, which precedes his rebirth, begins the day he can no longer sleep.
To find a cure, he goes as far as participating in support groups against various cancers. This, in order to be able to impregnate himself with a human sincerity that he no longer finds elsewhere. It is there that he will meet Marla, the one who will be his haunting but also the subject of his most ardent desires. What he will not dare to admit to himself. It is at this stage of his life that the narrator will meet Tyler Durden during one of his many trips. The character having then left him his card after a short conversation.
Back home, the narrator discovers that his apartment has simply exploded in his absence. Destitute, isolated and friendless, he calls Tyler Durden in desperation to take him in, even though the two men barely know each other. From there, after a few beers, the two men will create the Fight Club in spite of themselves by fighting for fun on the parking lot. As if to free themselves from the prohibitions that had hindered them for a lifetime.
Gradually, the narrator, who was an inserted member of society and therefore, unhappy to live in a system that he finally despised, will start to let himself go to the marginality. As he frees himself, he will become more gloomy and care infinitely less about what others think of him because he despises them so much. His friendship with Tyler will lead him to follow him into projects that are beyond him. What started as an underground fight club ends up in high-flying terrorism without him realizing how the project has evolved. As he falls into his marginality, only Marla justifies his not losing his footing.
The Fight Club Narrator POP figure presents him as he was before he met Tyler Durden. You can tell this by the fact that his white shirt is not yet stained with blood and the fact that he is still wearing a tie. On the shirt of the Narrator's POP from Fight Club, there is a label that says "Rupert". This is obviously not his name that we will never know. The label is a reminder that the Narrator gave false names every time he participated in a support group for a serious illness.
With its ringed face, the Funko POP Narrator from Fight Club is a perfect representation of the stage in the character's life when he couldn't find sleep. The penguin, next to the Fight Club Narrator Funko POP figure, symbolizes his secret place located in an ice floe. His mental refuge, where Marla finally settled, preventing him from finding the peace he was looking for. The one that will lead him to the path of chaos!
