POP Al Powell (Die Hard)

Sergeant Al Powell is a Los Angeles police officer who recurs in the Die Hard franchise, and who we discover in the first Die Hard movie. On Christmas Eve, Powell finishes his day by stopping at a convenience store to buy pastries for his pregnant wife. It is at this moment that he receives a general call asking an agent to go to the Nakatomi Plaza tower following a distress call. Being right next door, Al Powell goes there to see that there is nothing to report. On the way, a corpse is thrown on his patrol car, triggering the general alarm on what is going on in the tower...

Powell does not know it yet, but the body was thrown by John McClane, a New York policeman who came to try to reconcile with his wife, an employee of Nakatomi. McClane has found himself in the middle of a major hostage situation as terrorists, led by Hans Gruber, have executed Joe Takagi, and want to steal the hundreds of millions in his coffers. Their carefully laid out plan simply didn't anticipate having to deal with McClane, and he's going to give the terrorists a run for their money!

Only after killing one of Gruber's men, Tony Vreski, does McClane grab a machine gun and a walkie-talkie. Thanks to this means of communication, McClane and Powell are able to communicate. If McClane does not reveal his identity immediately, in particular to keep an advantage on the terrorists who listen to the same frequency but also to protect his wife hostage, Powell will quickly understand that he has to deal with a very reckless policeman.

If Powell can't do anything during the police operation led by the FBI, he remains an important moral support for McClane who often feels alone after different trials: when he has to crawl in ducts or when he runs barefoot on pieces of glass!

If McClane is the cliché of the cop who breaks all the rules, Powell is the cliché of the good patrol cop... Quiet, loving pastries, and especially preferring the calm of an office to the dangers of the street. It must be said that Powell had a trauma at the beginning of his career, killing a child by accident during a patrol. For him as for McClane, this hostage situation and its rather happy ending will be a good way to put the past behind him.

Funko makes a nice nod to Die Hard fans with the POP of Agent Powell in Die Hard. We discover a POP figure very faithful to the agent that we discover at the beginning of the film. In police uniform, he comes out of the gas station where he filled up with "Twinkies", pastries that his pregnant wife seems to have asked him for. Funko naturally represented him with his arms full of these little buns, supporting the comical character of the scene.

Nevertheless, the POP figure of Al Powell also shows his sad face, testifying that his life as a policeman is not at its best. We will learn later that he is struggling with the burden of having shot a child at the beginning of his career...

Finally, all the details of his police outfit are present on the POP with his thick jacket, his black pants, his belt where is notably hung a truncheon. The POP is simply perfect to remind the fans of the beginning of the movie.
