Lois Lane is a journalist working at the Daily Planet and will be very close to Clark Kent until the two protagonists confess their love and become engaged. Lois Lane is one of the few people to know Clark's secret.

Lois is a woman who wants to help build a better world. With no superpowers, she contributes on her own level by pushing her investigations tenaciously and not backing away from danger, which will often put her in very dangerous situations. Lois' story in Smallville suggests that her fearless, go-getter personality comes from her childhood in the army since her father was a General.

Her relationship with Clark Kent is initially closer to a very friendly one, Lois likes the Kents and likes to spend time with Clark, mostly to tickle him by nicknaming him "Smallville" to remind him many times that he comes from a small town. After a few years, Lois's admiring Clark feels that the relationship is more than friendly, and Lois Lane also begins to feel a more loving attraction to Clark without knowing that he is "the blur" (the nickname given to Superman when he begins to become a public figure). Only after they begin their relationship will Lois realize that The Blur and Clark are one, without revealing it to Clark.

Lois is both a strong and independent woman who is willing to risk her life for the good of others. This will be even more true in her relationship with Clark as she will do everything in her power to protect Superman's secret and help him fulfill his destiny and do good for those around him.
