POP action figure of Jules Winnfield #62
The characters of Pulp Fiction have each a very marked personality, especially very striking and no two of them are similar. Samuel L. Jackson, playing the character of Jules in Pulp Fiction, marks his very first collaboration with Quentin Tarantino. He had just missed playing a secondary role in Reservoir Dogs three years earlier.
After having burst the screen with the role of Jules, Tarantino will not be mistaken in calling on him again on the occasion of five other films, Jackie Brown, Django and The 8 Bastards, or even as a pianist in Kill Bill 2 or as a voiceover in Inglorious Basterds
Credited in the credits as Jules Winnfield of his full name, never pronounced during the film, the character will be the one who, by his verve and a hint of wisdom, will close Pulp Fiction masterfully. Contrary to his companion Vincent Vega, with whom he shares orchestrated missions on behalf of Marcellus Wallace, Jules will only have one adventure during Pulp Fiction, this one being broken down into two parts during the film.
It is also him who will contribute to introduce Pulp Fiction whereas Vincent and him, in a long sequence shot, climb the stairs until arriving at the apartment which they had come to invest. On this occasion, the two men, who have come to recover a possession of Marcellus Wallace - the famous briefcase whose contents are unknown - almost get killed and miraculously escape 6 bullets.
Marked by this unusual event - like all the events in Pulp Fiction - Jules decides to hang up his gloves and not to work for Marcellus Wallace anymore. He who liked to quote a Bible verse over and over again to look cool during his interventions, will suddenly discover that he is more superstitious than he thought.
Despite his impulsive temperament, his propensity for monologues makes him an eloquent man who even manages to persuade a hostage taker not to continue his misdeed. Of all the characters in Pulp Fiction, he will be, with Butch Coolidge, the one to know the most enviable fate of all.
Also, the Funko POP figurine of Jules, to mark the similarity between Jules and his compadre Vincent Vega, represents him in the exact same pose. It must be said that the two men are dressed in exactly the same way, which the POP figure of Jules marks very concretely by representing the character in his black tie suit with white shirt.
As with the Vincent Vega POP figure, the Jules figure is shown with his right arm outstretched, a handgun in hand, ready to fire. It is in this exact position that he empties an entire magazine on the man who failed to kill him at the beginning of the film.
Also, the POP figure of Jules represents him with an old-fashioned haircut and beard as the character wears them. A character who wears his hair in the fashion of the 70s, a fashion to which Quentin Tarantino was then particularly receptive and which was dear to his heart.
