April O'Neil is a young woman journalist for a news channel, friend of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . She is the first "human" to meet the Mutant Ninja Turtles, and although she was scared at first, she quickly became friends with the little band.

April's job, and her curiosity, very often put her in delicate situations. For example, she is often the target of Shredder who wants to get rid of her or use her as bait to reach Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . Nevertheless her courage is always there to assist her ninja friends as best she can. This ability for April to have to be rescued by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles having turned to the "running gag" many episodes.

Through the intermediary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , she meets Casey Jones with whom she begins a love relationship, to the great dismay of Donatello himself in love with the young woman...
