Funko POP Scream: Three new figures, and a date that's anything but a coincidence

Sidney, Dewey and Gale are getting Funko figures in December 2026. The first Scream was released on December 20, 1996. Funko is therefore bringing out the original trio for the movie's exact 30th anniversary, just a few months after a seventh installment brought all three of them back to the screen.

Thirty years, almost to the month

The timing speaks for itself. Wes Craven released Scream in theaters on December 20, 1996, and these three figures are arriving in December 2026.

Funko is not hiding the connection. The official descriptions for all three figures open with the same sentence: « Since 1996, Ghostface has haunted Woodsboro and beyond, turning a simple phone call into pure terror with a blend of slasher-movie thrills and dark, self-aware humor. » The year is written directly into the product copy, leaving little doubt about the intention.

The line also sums up rather well what the movie brought to the genre. Before it, the slasher was on life support. Scream revived it by giving its characters the same movie knowledge as the audience, with people literally spelling out the rules of the genre while being subjected to them.

Timing boosted by Scream 7

The anniversary is not arriving on its own. Scream 7 was released on February 27, 2026, this time directed by Kevin Williamson, the man who wrote the screenplay for the first movie thirty years earlier.

The commercial result was significant: more than $214 million worldwide on a $45 million budget, the strongest financial performance in the entire series. Critics were considerably less enthusiastic, with the movie receiving a broadly negative reception. But for a licensed collectibles line, the first number matters more.

More importantly, the seventh movie brought Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette back together, along with Matthew Lillard. In other words, exactly the three faces Funko is releasing in December.

Sidney, Dewey and Gale, the trio that survived it all

The three are meant to be collected together. They are the core that has defined the license since 1996, and Funko chose to release them as a group instead of starting with Ghostface, which would have been the obvious commercial move.

The choice not to release Ghostface

That is the most interesting part of this wave, and it is noticeable precisely because of what is missing.

Ghostface has already received numerous Funko figures. The mask is one of the most marketable visuals in modern horror, and it does not need an anniversary to sell. By dedicating all three December releases to the survivors rather than the killer, Funko is treating Scream as a character-driven saga, not simply as a mask franchise.

For the 30th anniversary, that makes sense. What kept Scream going for three decades was not the costume: it was the fact that three ordinary people kept coming back, seven times, to face the same nightmare.

What to look for

All three, or none at all. A Sidney without Dewey and Gale would not make much sense on a shelf when the wave is so explicitly built around the original trio.

If you still have to prioritize one, Dewey is the figure to secure first. His return to the screen was the least certain of the three, and figures tied to a very specific moment in a franchise are usually the ones that become harder to find the fastest. Pre-orders are open, with the release scheduled for December 2026.
