It's one of cinema's great sagas, as famous for its actors as for its cult lines, like the offer you can't refuse, and we love it when Funko dusts off these characters: the Godfather trilogy!
Good news, since Funko seems determined to please fans of the saga with new releases. The figurine brand had already celebrated the 50th anniversary of the release of the very first film in 2022 with beautiful POPs and a magnificent poster of the film, but now the brand is doing it again, this time with figurines from the second installment (The Godfather Part II).
To our delight, 4 POP figurines from The Godfather are already available for pre-order, including a beautiful POP Deluxe tribute to the Corleones.
The Godfather II also celebrates its 50th anniversary
Released in 1974 and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, "The Godfather II" is a brilliant follow-up to the first "Godfather" opus, deepening the universe created in the first installment.
Continuing the saga of the Corleone family, "The Godfather II" offers a fascinating insight into the origins of patriarch Vito Corleone, played to perfection by Marlon Brando in the first film. Robert De Niro masterfully portrays the young Vito, exploring his humble beginnings as an Italian immigrant and his rise to become the powerful head of the New York Mafia.
The film's plot alternates between past and present, drawing a striking parallel between the choices and consequences of the two generations of Corleones. As Michael Corleone, played unforgettably by Al Pacino, attempts to maintain and expand his family's criminal empire, family tensions and rivalries emerge, creating a complex and captivating drama.
Praised by critics and viewers alike, we're reassured to see that Funko is turning its attention to the second opus in the saga, and will be bringing us back to the New York mafia characters as they gradually evolve.
4 new Funko POP figures for your collection
This announcement includes four new figurines from The Godfather II:
Let's start with POP #1523 featuring Fredo Corleone, the son often relegated to second place in the Corleone family because of his gentler, more moderate temperament. The POP recalls his physical resemblance to his father.
The second "popified" character is Tom Hagen (#1524), the only "newcomer" to Funko POP since there were no figurines of him to date, although the character is ultimately less present in the second installment. The "legal advisor" is perfectly recognizable with his bald head and gray suit worthy of an austere accountant...
The unmistakable patriarch Vito Corleone (Funko POP #1525) is the third character from Godfather II to have his own POP. For the occasion, it's a young Vito, in the guise of Robert de Niro. No dark suit, no cat, but it's a young, fiery Sicilian who appears on this figurine.
Finally, the last figurine - and a very nice surprise - is a POP Deluxe of Michael Corleone, who succeeded his father. We discover him sitting comfortably in an armchair, imitating his father's posture. The figure's details are a reminder that, although he tried to imitate him and make the family prosper, his devastating authority was to fracture it... If you've already got Vito Corleone's POP on the armchair, both will make a splash in your collection as a reminder of the evolution at the head of the Corleone family!
Funko x The Godfather: an exceptional collaboration
Fans of The Godfather trilogy and its cast of incredible actors can rejoice, because Funko seems to have decided to expand the collection. While the very first Godfather POPs date back to 2017, and there was nothing new until 2022, this is now the second wave of announcements. It seems that the "50th anniversary" has inspired Funko to take another look at this cinematic masterpiece.
In all, there are 14 POP figurines from The Godfather that you can now collect, including, of course, numerous versions of Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone, but we can legitimately assume that Funko will eventually turn its attention to the more secondary characters who left their mark on the films.
Among the 14 Godfather figurines, there are some very nice surprises already available, starting with the POP Movie Posters reproducing the mythical black poster of the film, with the Vito Corleone figurine in black and white. Or the Deluxe POPs of the two "generations" of patriarchs on the armchairs.
Suffice to say, if you're an unconditional fan of the trilogy, you've got enough to build up a fine collection of Godfather Funko POPs, not to mention that new announcements may well be on the way!
