The official name of the release is Pop! Scar (Surrounded by Idiot Meme), and the concept is simple: the lion stands on a base featuring the phrase “I’m surrounded by idiots”.
At 10.4 cm, the figure is slightly larger than average, with a standard price of €14.99 at the first French retailers and €15.99 at others. No exclusive status and no Chase have been announced.
What sets it apart from the many Scar figures Funko has already released is entirely down to that base. This time, it is not really the character being represented, but the quote itself.
Pop! Memes, one of the most unusual lines in the catalogue
Funko does not classify this figure under Disney Villains, but instead places it in a separate line: Pop! Memes. A range entirely dedicated to images and quotes that have gone viral online, regardless of the franchise they originally came from.
For now, the lineup remains very small. It currently includes:
- Boromir – POP #1709: the shot from The Lord of the Rings that gave us “One does not simply walk into Mordor”, probably one of the most widely reused movie memes of all time.
- Skeletor Running Away – POP #1787: the GIF of the Masters of the Universe villain running away, recycled across social media for years.

Just six releases. Each one is based on a specific image that millions of people recognize without necessarily having seen the original movie or series it came from.
Why this particular quote?
In the 1994 movie, Scar delivers the line during the “Be Prepared” sequence, frustrated by the hyenas’ inability to follow his plan. The delivery is pure exasperation.
That tone is exactly what gave the quote its second life. Thirty years later, it has become one of those lines people use to comment on a meeting that drags on forever, an email thread going in circles or an incomprehensible team decision. It has moved beyond the world of animated villains and become a piece of office humor.
Funko therefore chose Scar’s most universally reusable line. Not “Long live the king”, which remains tied to one specific scene in the movie, but the one that works anywhere, anytime and for almost anyone.
What this says about Funko’s approach
The Pop! Memes line marks an interesting shift. Funko is no longer selling only licensed characters, but shared cultural references. Boromir, Skeletor and Scar have nothing in common as characters: what connects them is that each generated an image the internet adopted as its own.
For collectors, this creates a new category, collected as much for the joke as for the character. And for Funko, it opens up an entire range of references that can appeal to people who do not otherwise collect POP figures.
A simple figure with a not-so-simple idea
No Chase, no exclusivity and a standard price: this release is not about rarity. Its appeal lies elsewhere, in the fact that it fully embraces its role as a desk collectible.
It is probably the best candidate in the Pop! Memes range for a gift to a coworker, and perhaps the only Disney Villains POP whose buyer will not necessarily be a fan of The Lion King. Pre-orders are open, with release scheduled for November 2026.
