Avengers: Doomsday: These Pops Tell the Story Before Marvel

Funko has opened preorders on its first Avengers: Doomsday wave, and three of these figures show things Marvel hasn't shown anywhere yet. A character who had never had a figure, a hero picking up a weapon he has wielded exactly once on screen, and a costume lifted straight out of a concept art folder. The film lands on December 18, 2026. The boxes are already talking.

Franklin Richards steps out of the dark on a figure box

In July 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps closed on a mid-credits scene that set up everything after it. Four years later in the story, Sue reads to Franklin, steps away for a minute, hears a noise, and comes back to a green-cloaked figure kneeling beside the boy, holding his hand. Doom's face is never shown. That scene is why the next film has the title it has.

The official product name is Pop! & Buddy Doctor Doom with Franklin (Doomsday), POP #1645, and it says exactly what the scene implied: in this box, Franklin is one of Doom's accessories. The two figures are 10.9 and 2.5 cm. The child fits in the monarch's hand.

It is the first Franklin Richards figure in Funko's catalog, and the first official look at the character for this film. Retailer exclusive, with Octane5 authentication on the box.

Steve Rogers picks up the hammer, not the shield

The first teaser, released on December 23, 2025, showed Steve Rogers riding up to a farmhouse, a wedding band on his finger, a newborn in his arms, then pulling his Captain America suit out of storage. You saw him take the old uniform back out. You didn't see what he was going to take with it.

The official listing for POP #1679 says it instead: POP! Steve Rogers with Mjolnir. The hammer, and not the shield, which the description never mentions. And not "Captain America" either, since Funko calls him Steve Rogers: the Captain America of this film is Sam Wilson.

Steve has wielded Mjolnir once on screen, in Avengers: Endgame, and both Pops that ever put the hammer in his hand came out in 2019. On one of them he carried it alongside his broken shield. Seven years later the shield has dropped out of the equation and the hammer stayed.

The description Funko wrote for the whole wave turns on a tragedy that hands some characters a purpose and others a reason for vengeance. A man dragged out of retirement fits the first category.

Lord Doom comes out of a concept art folder

This one is signed, literally. The full name is Concept Series: Pop! Lord Doom (Doomsday), POP #1643, a web exclusive, Octane5 on the box. The Concept Series doesn't reproduce what ends up on screen: it reproduces what the art teams drew while the film was being built.

What comes out of it is a Doom in full Latverian regalia, a head of state rather than a warlord. Hasbro unveiled its own version of that same design at New York Comic Con, October 8 to 11, 2026, under the same name and with two spell books as accessories. Two manufacturers are therefore shipping the same art direction in the same week.

Doom takes five of the eighteen references: the classic metal mask as POP #1636, this Lord Doom, the one holding Franklin, and the Die-Cast #13 with its Chase. Which tells you who is carrying this film.

The Sentinel the trailer was saving for last

In August 2026, the trailer shown at D23 had Doom swat Stormbreaker aside with one gesture, then raise an army of Sentinels out of the ground to face the heroes head on. That was the reveal of the whole cut.

Funko treats it as a Pop! Jumbo at 25.4 cm, POP #1675, with no exclusivity attached. The format is the only correct answer here: a Sentinel scaled to a standard Pop would be a desk robot. It is also the first Sentinel in the catalog, across every license.

Both hammers of the saga are in the same wave. Thor carries Stormbreaker as POP #1637, Steve carries Mjolnir as POP #1679. And the trailer has already shown what Doom does with the first one.

The rest of the wave, name by name

The range goes further than that: three Bitty Pop series of four, mystery singles and playsets, including a Doomstadt tower, the Fantastic Four Jump Jet and Avengers Tower.

My take

I'm taking Doom with Franklin, and not out of sentiment. It is the only reference in the wave where the format does the storytelling: a Pop! & Buddy whose "buddy" is a 2.5 cm child held by the man who took him. Pop! & Buddy normally exists to find room for a pet. Here it encodes an abduction, and it is the only box in the series that tells you something instead of introducing someone.

The Die-Cast and its silver Chase leave me cold, and I know that will annoy people. The etched acrylic case is beautifully made, the base opens, the whole thing is the best-built object of the set. But it is the fifth Doom in one wave, and the variant consists of repainting an already fully metallic character in metallic. A finish that expresses a property of the character, I'll buy; a finish that repeats it, no.

The gap is obvious: Professor X. Patrick Stewart has been in the cast since March 2025, he has four standard Pops behind him going back to 2014, and in this wave he exists only at 2.5 cm, in a four-piece Bitty Pop set and in a two-pack with Magneto. Same treatment for Sam Wilson, who is the Captain America of this film and ends up as a miniature while Steve Rogers takes the standard Pop. Funko picked the faces people recognize from across a room, not the ones the film is built around.

Preorders are open, with release announced for December 2026, a few weeks ahead of the film.
